The 3 best baby carriers for large breasts

I am a breastfeeding mom of two, soon to be three. I have been using baby carriers for more than 4 years now, and I also breastfeed while babywearing. I am expecting a baby very soon and I think I will continue to do this for at least a couple more years. But I have a little problem, I have large breasts, too big to make babywearing comfortable with most baby carriers. I think I am qualified to tell you about the best baby carriers for large breasts. In case you doubt my credentials, here we are, me and my big boob breastfeeding my baby in a baby carrier.

Since I have had to learn which baby carriers work for big boobs and which don’t, here is my list of the best baby carriers for babywearing with large breasts. I do think it is a good idea to have a couple of different baby carriers for different ages, situations, and weather. If you had to have just one though, I would recommend the Ergobaby Omni 360. All of these are great for breastfeeding hands-free too, but I would recommend it to non-breastfeeding people too.

Here is my list of the 3 best baby carriers for large breasts:

1. Boba wrap

The boba wrap baby carrier is perfect for babywearing with big boobs when your baby is a newborn. It is very versatile since you adjust the fit every time you put it on. It’s stretchy, soft and comfortable for the baby but can give you enough support for being around the house and carrying your baby hands-free while you do other things.

You can stretch the fabric widely over your shoulders to avoid having a lot of pressure around your neck. Wrap it more tightly if you want to go out on a walk and more loosely if you just want a little less support while you rest at home.

You can use it as a blanket, or pillow, to wipe a little bit of spit if you don’t have anything else on hand, and then you can wash the wrap on delicate with cold water and tumble dry on low to have it as good as new again.

Another good thing about the Boba Wrap is that it can be used just as comfortably by other people. This baby wrap can be worn in many different ways. On their website, they have many videos to learn how to use the Boba Wrap in different positions and some tips and tricks. My favorite: these videos to learn to breastfeed hands-free in the carrier.

I don’t think it would be a great difference in the fit if you tried another brand’s wrap baby carrier of a similar style. However, this one is the most popular one and the one I have used myself for years. I got it handed down from a friend, so it has been used for three babies and is still in perfect shape after being washed many times.

Also, there are lots of different color options and even patterns available.

Approximate age use: newborn to 2 years

Even though the Boba Wrap is safe for toddlers, I don’t think it is very comfortable once the baby gets a little heavier. I would use this for a few months but then move on to a more structured baby carrier.

Weight limit: 7 – 35 lb

2. Ergobaby Omni 360

Ergobaby baby carrier for large breasts

Babies get heavier, and if you already have large breasts you are already carrying a lot of weight in the front of your body. Structured baby carriers are best for when you need to carry your baby and walk, or even for hikes. But structured baby carriers obviously have a lot of structure and some are not able to fit in every type of body.

The best thing about the Ergobaby Omni 360 is that there are endless positions you can put your baby in. I find that by rotating the carrier a little bit to the hip I can breastfeed hands-free while babywearing. And when the baby falls asleep on my boob I can slide him back to my chest without waking him up. There are adjustable straps in all the right places to adapt the carrier perfectly to your body.

This baby carrier fits from birth and for years. My 4-year-old can use it. I have even used one in the front and one in the back and it gives enough support to go on a big hike.

It can be used in every position imaginable. Here is a video explaining exactly how to use it.

And here is how to nurse hands-free.

In this case, it does matter the kind of soft baby carrier that you use if you have large breasts. The most popular ones that can carry newborns to toddlers are the Babybjörn One and Ergobaby 360/ Omni 360.

My favorite one, which I got second-hand, has carried both my kids and is still in perfect shape for my third is the Ergobaby Omni 360.

For the winter, I use a baby carrier cover from Ergobaby as well.

Approximate age use: newborn to 3 years

Weight limit: 7 – 45 lb

What is the difference between the Ergobaby Omni 360 and Babybjörn One?

The main difference between the Ergobaby Omni 360 and the Babubjörn One is that in the Ergobaby, the baby sits between the carrier and you while in the Babybjörn the baby sits in a pocket built into the carrier, so there is a piece of structured fabric that sits between you and the baby.

The fabric between you and the baby fits very awkwardly unless you are flat-chested. I personally own both, and the Ergobaby is the best by far if you have large breasts. The babybjörn ended up being the one my husband uses.

What is the difference between Ergobaby 360 and Ergobaby Omni 360?

The main difference between the Ergobaby 360 and the Ergobaby Omni 360 is that the Ergobaby 360 needs a special newborn insert to be able to carry newborn babies, while the Ergobaby Omni 360 can adapt to an average-weight newborn baby without any extra pieces. Both can carry your toddler as well. My four-year-old could still fit in both if he was interested.

3. Minimonkey Mini Sling

minimonkey mini sling

I’ve had three Minimonkey Mini Slings in the last five years. It’s so small and I’ve moved so much that I lost the first two. I couldn’t live without it, so I bought another one each time. I have also gifted it to two friends, and they loved it. I’m going to keep gifting this to anyone having a baby because really, it is fantastic!

The Minimonkey Mini Sling is perfect for traveling and for very hot weather. I live between Norway and Spain so I travel with my kids a lot and I experience really cold and really hot weather. Cold weather is easy to manage with a good baby-wearing jacket or a baby carrier cover for winter.

The Minimonkey Mini Sling is the only one I use in Spain’s summer because it is perfect for hot weather. It is made of just a layer of very breathable mesh fabric and it doesn’t overheat the baby at all. It is so light and versatile that you can use it in the water at the beach and it dries in just a few minutes in the sun.

This sling is incredibly small and breathable, and it doesn’t even need a carrying bag because it folds into itself.

Since it is a sling-type carrier, it can carry the baby in the front or on the hip. Similar to the Ergobaby Omni 360, this makes breastfeeding hands-free very easy. Put baby to the side, breastfeed, and move back to the chest when he is finished.

The front position is best when the baby is very small and can’t support their head yet. The hip position is also very good for when the baby or toddler is heavier. Carrying the weight on the hip is much more comfortable than carrying all of the weight in the back and shoulders. And if you use it for long periods of time you can change positions when you need to.

If you have large breasts you will want to spread the fabric widely on your shoulder to avoid too much pressure close to your neck.

Approximate age use: newborn to 2 years (I have to say that my 4-year-old could still fit, and he is not particularly small)

Weight limit: up to 33 lb

Unfortunately, this exact carrier is not available on Amazon in the US. There is, however, an almost identical one available on Amazon that has great reviews and a lot of colors to choose from.

Summary

If you want to wear your baby and have large breasts, you should look for baby carriers that are very versatile and adapt well to your body.

I recommend the Boba Wrap, Ergobaby Omni 360, and Minimonkey Sling (or a similar one on Amazon).

If you only want it for the first couple of months, get the Boba Wrap. If you plan to wear your baby into toddlerhood in and out of the house, get the Ergobaby Omni 360. If you travel, live in very hot weather, and want to use a carrier that is easy to carry around and breathable, get the Minimonkey Sling.

If you already know you will be babywearing and have big boobs, I would get the three. They don’t have to be new, second-hand is just as good if not more!

Check the weight limits and instructions for each of these products before using them. I’ve indicated the weight limits for the specific products but these sometimes change.
